Hasselberg Transport replaced its 30-year-old system—and got up and running faster than they thought possible

Hasselberg Transport — Norway’s moving company for large and small moves since 1968

Norway’s leading moving company, operating between the south and the north, had been using its own order management system since 1996. When it was time to switch, they chose Movex. Here’s how they experienced the transition.

Hasselberg Transport AS has been helping Norwegians move since 1968. From its headquarters in Tromsø, the company manages 12–18 moving trucks that transport goods across Norway every day—and it is currently the moving company in the country that handles the most moves between Southern Norway and Northern Norway. The company is one of 10 approved members of the Norwegian Moving Association and has a turnover of just over 35 million Norwegian kroner with 21 employees.

But behind that well-established facade lay a system that had long since seen better days.

A homemade system spanning three generations

Hasselberg built his first order management system in Microsoft Access in 1996. At the time, quotes were sent by mail or fax—and the system was designed accordingly. Over the years that followed, it was updated in stages and reached its third generation.

“The old system was great and worked perfectly for us,” says Örjan at Hasselberg, who is in charge of sales and marketing. “We could have adapted the old system to a new accounting system, but that would have been too much work. We preferred to find a new system that offered more possibilities.”

As a result, they began looking for a new system.

A big decision at the right time

Hasselberg had decided to outsource its accounting and switch to the Poweroffice financial system. This meant that the old order system—which was linked to the previous financial system—no longer worked.

“It was a huge undertaking and a difficult decision to make,” says Örjan. “We evaluated Movex and a couple of other systems.”

In the end, the choice came down to Movex and another option. The other system had integrated payment solutions, but lacked the features Hasselberg used most: work orders, quotes, scheduling, and navigation.

— Movex was the system that most closely resembled the one we had built ourselves. That was a positive aspect for us. It was very intuitive and easy to navigate. You could immediately understand how it worked.

Up and running sooner than expected

Replacing a mission-critical system after 30 years of using the same setup was a task Hasselberg approached with caution. They were given access to a demo client and used it for a period of time before going live.

“Getting started exceeded all our expectations,” says Örjan. “We found the menu easy to navigate and quickly figured out what to do.”

One of the biggest concerns was the transition for the employees. Hasselberg has employees of all ages, including some in their late 60s, and they were worried about how much effort it would take to train everyone on the new system.

— But that really says a lot about Movex’s user-friendliness. One of the biggest advantages is that the system is so simple. It’s easy to understand and easy to get started with. You can customize things if you need to, but getting started is a breeze.

Movex also offers mobile access—something Hasselberg didn't have in the old system. It's a feature they're looking forward to exploring further in the future.

Adjustments that took effect immediately

Hasselberg operates differently from most other companies. They run long-haul routes between southern and northern Norway, outsource assignments to subcontractors, and operate on a commission-based model. They also needed a solution for their insurance administration—the documentation they submit to their insurance company.

Movex tailored the system to Hasselberg's needs. A commission model for subcontractors and an insurance report were developed.

— Movex developed a custom module, and it has worked perfectly. Terje at Movex has an amazing ability to turn our needs into practical solutions. They did a fantastic job, and in a very short time.

Örjan also points out that issues that have arisen since the launch have been handled in the same way—quickly and smoothly.

— The issues we were worried might arise beforehand worked out very smoothly and never became a problem.

Everyday Life at Movex

Today, the biggest difference is how Hasselberg handles quotes. Previously, they had to manually enter all requests. Now, requests from the website and the Norwegian Moving Association are sent directly to Movex.

“The biggest improvement we’ve seen is with the quotes. We’re able to get quotes much more easily now,” says Örjan.

In addition, they have gained support for features they didn’t have before: recurring billing and inventory management, as well as time tracking and payroll management for hourly employees.

"We recommend Movex to everyone"

If you ask Örjan whether he would recommend Movex to another moving company, the answer is clear.

— There’s no doubt about it. Given how satisfied we are with Movex, we would recommend it to everyone. We think the quote reports sent to customers and the work reports that can be used internally have been incredibly helpful.

The support team also receives praise.

— You always respond quickly to our questions, and everything gets resolved in no time. Your prompt responses are yet another reason why we’ve been so satisfied!
